Most of us played cowboys & Indians at some time in our lives and in addition to cleverly hiding and sneaking around it usually involved skillfully riding our faithful horse. Some of us never grow out of our love for these beautiful animals and decide to dedicate our lives to them.
Farrier Glen Newlin lives his life around horses, caring for them, raising them and teaching others about these noble creatures. Glen and his wife Pam live with their three grown horses, mule and their newest little foal born in April 2007 on what they call their "Little Patch of Heaven Now in Texas" literally on a portion of the old Chisholm Trail.
In addition to the obvious skills one needs to learn to provide Farrier services, the skills that seem to be required and stand out is an infinite amount of patience combined with an empathy for working with an animal. Glen was born and raised around animals and learned early in his life that he had such skills. Well, to be honest, raising kids also helped a lot of this skill building!
To address an unmet need that he saw, Glen developed a special program to orient and demonstrate to any child or adult who wants to understand what it really takes to own your own horse and the proper care of that horse. This includes basic horse management & riding skills along with how to make a horse lay down, show how a Farrier puts on a set of horseshoes, trim hoofs and how to safely work around a horse. To make such a program feasible Glen prefers to do this program for small groups which normally do not exceed ten people. Special one-on-one personal instruction is also available.
Sessions can be scheduled at Glen & Pam's location or on-site for a special event such as a surprise birthday party, instructions for classrooms, conventions, exhibitions, Girl & Boy Scout Troop meetings and Church events. Glen brings Jasper his 10 year old full blooded quarter horse which he has trained for 7 years. Glen is always open to discussing new opportunities of how and what venues he can demonstrate this service so feel free to call and explore any idea.
Please call Glen directly to discuss your need, logistics and schedule requirements to provide you with a cost for this special event programming.
