We live in Kopperl, Texas. Kopperl, wich is fourteen miles northeast of Meridian and forty miles northwest of Waco in northeastern Bosque County, was founded in 1881 and named in honor of Moritz Kopperl, a Galveston banker and Santa Fe Railroad director. The community was on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. In 1953, after the construction of the Lake Whitney dam, a levee was erected around the town to protect citizens from possible flooding. In 1904 the estimated population was 329. The population in 1974 was 225. Kopperl was the subject of a song by Stephen Fromholtz, "The Texas Trilogy." In 1990 the population was still reported as 225. We know for a fact it is at least 227 now!
Glen is a Professional Farrier. You can see him doing some work on the slide show on this page. A farrier is a specialist in equine hoof care, including the trimming and balancing of a horse's hoof so as to fit shoes to the horse's foot. A farrier couples blacksmith's skills (fabricating, adapting, and adjusting metal shoes) with veterinary medicine (knowledge of the muscular-skeletal structure of the lower limb) to address the care of the horse's feet. Farriers specialize in horse shoeing, focusing their time and effort on the care of the horse's foot. A farrier's routine work is primarily hoof trimming and shoeing.
Pam is a professional beautician. She has opened her own business location at the Village Hairport. You can see some photos related to her work in the slide show on her website.
Life is busy for us here in Texas. We have become members of the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney at which my wife and I share our Christian Faith and have excepted God into our lives. We are looking at getting approved to be Foster/Adopt Parents. "As in Ma and Pa Kettle". Will up date this information in the future as it progresses.
We have collected a pretty impressive group of animals with our horses, dogs, cats and birds!
Below is the newest addition to the Homestead!
